would this eames chair be the perfect gift for someone you know? bedroomfurniture.com has given us this eames chair with eiffel legs (made by herman miller) to give to you! just tell us who you would give this chair to and why. leave your message as a comment following this post by friday, july 10th at midnight. we're going to announce our favorite on sunday. that's it! simple, right?
p.s. this is what a 1959 herman miller order form looked like along with the original standard fiberglass shell swatches. whoa, look at the prices... all under $24.00!

If I won this chair, I would give it my brother. He is returning from the Peace Corps in August. He has lived in Albania for the past 27 months and in the time he's been there I've watched his appreciation for design, the arts and photography grow and grow! I would love to spoil him with such a great chair to use in his very first post-college-post-Peace Corps apartment :)

Oh wow, the moment I saw this I knew exactly who I would gift this chair too. My husband, and partner in crafty crime. He absolutely loves Modern design, the importance of function first that (in both our minds) in turn leads to such an aesthetically pleasing outcome. I also think he secretly would have loved to have been able to study at Cranbook had he gotten the chance.
Thank you so much for this amazing offer! Fingers crossed!

I would give this chair to my mom, because she absolutely loves the color orange, and needs a good, hip chair around the house. I love the eames chairs.

Ah, thats an easy one. I would give this chair to my partner, Henry. A year ago, we were both laid off from our jobs. Instead of going out and finding new, uncreative jobs, we're joining forces and opening my dream retail shop together.
As I'm sure you two have found, it sometimes takes two people to make something magical. Without Henry's help, I wouldn't be following my dream. Plus, he really loves mid century design.

Ok. My mom runs a pre-school & I volunteer there allllllll the time because nothing's better than crafting & reading wonderfully illustrated books to merry children. Well. There are two "adult chairs" in the room... two "big chairs" - & to be frank they are the lamest of the lame. They're scraped and scratched - but not in a rustic awesome way. They're ugly & old - but not in a supremely grand vintage-retro way. They're just terrible & because they were given by the government they are pretty much off-limits as far as paint-ifying & lovely-ifying goes. It's a tragic sight - tragic because the kids love them.. ADORE THEM... climb all over them as though they're made of candy. They just like the big-people-chairs. I want them to have a big people chair to climb like Everest that is worthy of the adoration - this chair. I'd give it to the children in my mother's pre-school. They'd love it. Bright, beautiful, amazement. I'd pry them off it only when it was storytime... then I'd plop down in it & read away from my uber-stylish perch.

I would love to gift this chair to my husband. He is the one who is always encouraging me to be a better person, to do more things, and to try out something new & potentially scary. The least I could do is give him the chair of his dreams (he seriously loves this chair!). Oh boy, would he be surprised!

My youngest brother is a bit of an idiot. He's wonderful--don't get me wrong--but he's 21, and prone to making the kind of mistakes everyone makes at that age. He stays up too late. He falls in love too fast. He eats junk food and gets drunk with his friends on school nights. He does some of his homework at the last minute. He's in college for art and design. He makes good things. He's sensitive and feels and loves deeply under his hiphoppy, petulant, tough early-20s-male exterior.
I'm living a two-hour train ride, a 45-minute Tube ride, a two-hour airport wait, an eight-hour flight, and a twenty-minute light-rail ride from him. I miss him. I wish I could be around to commiserate with him, encourage him, have fun with him, make art with him. I'd like to be able to give him the kind of daily advice (unwanted, maybe) and support that is so important to receive from one's siblings.
I know he would love a chair like this--not only because of its ties to design history, but because in itself it's a cheerful object. And I'd like to think he'd like it because it would be a concrete reminder of me (his much older sister), at a time in our lives where circumstances make it difficult for me to be present in his daily life. I would like thinking about a bright orange chair in his little apartment--that shock of color and cheerfulness. And I would, as probably anyone would, like being able to give my brother something he'd have and appreciate for years.
Thanks for the chance!

Wow, this chair would absolutely make my wife blush with joy. She's always the creative crafter and scrapbooker and this would go perfectly with her mid-century modern style furniture for her office at home. I can't think of anyone I know who would appreciate it more or be more deserving. She's constantly picking up and taking care of myself and our daughter and then working on her Etsy shop or scrapbooking goals non-stop in the evenings. What better way to reward her than to win her a classic place to rest herself after a long day's work ;)

I would give this to my Mom, it would fit in her living room perfectly and I can't think of anyone who deserves a special gift more.

i would want to give this chair to my husband...he is always giving up his seat to me, guests, our cats. he's allowed me to take over our office/studio and just asks for a small corner for his things.
this chair would make a great addition to our desk and give him a spot all his own, which he more than deserves.
thanks for the opportunity to win such a fabulous item!

The perfect giftee for this chair would be my husband, who is currently 1/3 of the brains behind starting a new art handling company in Philadelphia. Right now their office is one hot mess (literally...hot and a mess!) and is no place to meet with clients. They are attempting to get it under control but I think a piece like this would up their visual street cred (artists and art lovers are visual people, no?) and help inspire them to get it together. Plus, at the old art handling company we both worked for years ago, the first art move we did was all the furniture that the PMA had in their storage, including many an Eames chair (we were never allowed to actually sit in any of the PMA chairs...torture beyond belief...). It would be a reminder of where he started and show him how far he's come...

I would give this to my partner in crime. He hates the chair we have at the computer desk right now...this would be a perfect replacement.

I would gift the chair to myself because sometimes a girl has just got to treat herself. It would look fabulous in my office with my chocolate desk. If I am lucky it will give me design inspiration and make me more productive.

If I were to win this chair, I would have to be incredibly selfish and keep it for myself. I've wanted one of these chairs forever but can justify the price. I think it would be awesome with my new sewing table/desk.

If I won this chair I would give it to my boyfriend. He loves Herman Miller, but because of the price tag has been unable to buy any pieces. He is so generous and caring toward other people, this would be the perfect way for me to return that to him.
Thank you!

I would give this to my little boy Pierce. I would love for him to learn the value of great design and craftmanship. I also would like to see the best objects in life, are passed down, not brand new.

um... this is the best giveaway ever! seriously!
if i had to give them as a gift... i'd give them to my twin because she and her lady are going to start living together and it's be a beautiful gift for them...
but, really, i would want to keep these for myself. i know, i'm totally selfish... but i've been pining after eames chairs for years now... and all beautiful well made classic chairs.
i even went so far as to get gio ponti's superleggera tattooed on my arm. and, have been comtemplating (for two years now) getting this very eames chair on my other arm when i come to philly next month (at no ka oi)!
and... i even ordered the first day covers of the eames stamps when they came out... they're hanging up in my studio... because, while i'm a total chair nerd... i'm a stamp geek too!
alright... i think i've done enough blathering now...
(p.s. i'm excited to see your bike project... my fella's been doing a total overhaul on his bike lately)

I would give it to my fiance. We only have one chair in the office right now and he always lets me have it.

I would give this chair to my best friend's boyfriend. He loves modern style and we all just moved into a house built in 1925, so about as far from modern as one can get in our small Florida town. At least this would give him something to look at when he's sitting on original hardwood floors. : )

I would give it to my sister and her husband. They love modern or retro modern looking furniture. They claim that in the movies, characters who have homes filled with modern furniture are almost always the bad guys. So they call themselves evil because of their love for modern furniture and decor. Plus that orange color would look delightful in their living room!

I would give this chair to my Dad... for teaching me to appreciate art and design. Even though he is an engineer by trade he is an artist by heart!...(at least would have loved to be one). He used to take me and my two sisters to museums and galleries when we were little and since we lived in a very remote place in Venezuela during our childhood that meant driving two hours to the closest city during the weekends!!...when galleries were not available.. he found books, magazines and catalogs to teach us from painting to industrial design... He inspired me to become a graphic designer and did all he could to help pay for my graduate education here in the US...exposing me to even more greater things!! he has always dreamed to own an Eames chair and this fall he will move with my Mom here to philadelphia to live with me and my family!!! and nothing will be greater than having a orange Eames chair in their room!! :))
I can already see the joy on his face!!... and of course he is going to make everyone who comes sit on the chair!!!
Thanks!!
Carolina

I would most certainly give that chair to my mister. He's had a rough year -- even though he's been laid off (and laid off creatives are very hard to deal with..ehem)he continues to design n sell posters for his charity project donating all profit back into the Philly community.*love him more for that!* He's my favorite person and I love to make him smile! <3

This chair would be the perfect gift for my boyfriend.
He just finished law school and is studying for the Bar Exam. His days consist of work and studying until after dinner. as a way to unwind, he plays the keyboard.
He is currently wheeling his desk chair over to the keyboard to play, and since he has hardwood floors, the chair slides all over the place.
He would love this chair.

I would be delighted to give this chair to my best friend, R, aka The Nicest Person On Earth. She came into my life just a few years ago, right when I needed her most but didn't know it until we met. She is inspiring and so amazing; she cares for her grandmother who raised her (and now lives with R). She is an amazing mother to my favorite little girl in the whole world and the wife that any husband would be lucky to have. She does all of this while starting her own successful eco-conscious business, and does it all with style and grace.
Because her loved ones and new business take up all of her time (and then some!), taking the time and money to decorate her home has to come last. She makes do with some amazing thrift store finds and supports other indie artists to decorate her home, but she deserves an amazing iconic piece like this to sit on when she gets the chance! She deserves some great design to match her busy, happy home. I recently moved away from her and miss her every day.
And I wish that we could all still enjoy those 1959 prices!
please tell me I've won at ursula(at)shopursula.com : )
