this is what a 1959 herman miller order form looked like along with the original standard fiberglass shell swatches. whoa, look at the prices... all under $24.00!

i love you like ray loved charles...

...i've been saying this to stephen ever since we studied together at cranbrook (where ray kaiser & charles eames met in 1940). i can't imagine what we would be making if we had not been trained under their "form follows function" philosophy. it's not hard to find people who love their work but, for us, it's how they worked together that we admire most!

C&R

since our time at cranbrook, we coveted eames shell chairs... and now, we're lucky enough to have this one. that's why when we were approached with an opportunity to share one with you we said yes!!!

that's right, we want to give YOU an eames chair... how? check back soon for details!

bike update...

Bike update

we finally took the bikes to a shop and had them taken apart... this is what they look like now. we decided to have the frames sandblasted. if we're going to go this far, we might as well go all the way!

long weekend = yummy breakfast

our new summer project...

Bikeproject

his & hers vintage raleigh bicycles (mid / late 1960's). here's the plan: take them apart, paint them, put them back together, tune them up, add stuff (brooks leather saddles, leather grips, vintage pedal powered headlights, metal / wicker baskets and the perfect bells). see more "before" photos here.

the best vacation ever!

you might remember this post about how much we were looking forward to our vacation at lost river modern. we just got back from our week in the woods of west virginia and it was so worth the wait.

Lrm

we spent most of the week being inspired by the prefab modern home. after reading this blog about how chris & sarah created such an amazing place, we were really able to appreciate all the details.

10YRSBLOG
when we were married 10 years ago, we never could have imagined our lives as they are right now. that's the fun part - not knowing! today, we found ourselves mostly curious about the next ten. we're pretty lucky to have each other as we find out what's next.

we had such a great weekend at mccarren park! the weather was amazing, and we're happy to report that our third renegade was by far our favorite! thanks to sue, danny & kate, who made it such a great event. imagine 300 crafty kids hanging out in a park for two days - it's like a weird summer camp, and now we're a little sad that it's over. if you live in los angeles, san francisco, or chicago the renegade craft fair is on it's way to you, don't miss it!

Renegade

no sleep till brooklyn

we're here and we're ready to set up shop! we can't wait to see everyone and we're excited to be next to sue & nate (again). see you there!

p.s. we were asked to make a diy "mustache on a stick" for this year's renegade brooklyn booklet. if you can't make it to the show... we posted one just for you! click here. have fun.

lucky no.8

#8

it's pretty crazy that our booth assignment for art star & renegade is #8 at both shows. stephen thinks the odds are approx 1 in 300 for this to happen (not sure if he's really a numbers man though). either way - our new lucky number has to be 8, right?

ace hotel

Ace
i've been stalking the ace hotel website for months... waiting for them to open in nyc. finally, it happened and just in time for renegade! i've stayed at the ace in seattle and have been looking for an opportunity to take stephen to one. it did not disappoint. we started our day with some snapshots in the vintage photo booth and ended our day with drinks in the lodge style bar. our military surplus inspired room was "just right" and stephen loved that we had a full smeg refrigerator in our room.

we've been working on a few special projects for the fall and a line of wrapping paper is one of them! we can't share all the details yet - but we can say it's likely that you will be able to get your own rolls of our paper in most of the u.s. just in time for all your holiday gift wrapping.

summit of awsome

SA2

we're back from the summit of awesome and we had so much fun in dc! we set up shop next to the legendary jenny hart at the show on saturday night and we're happy to report jenny is just as nice as she is talented. (she even brought her mom along to help run her booth - how cute is that).

SA1 copy

we have to say a huge thank you to the ladies of hello craft, kim (that's her with the mustache above), sara, kelly and tina, who organized the entire event and invited us to give a talk about booth presentation. danielle from etsy was also there to broadcast our talk on the etsy virtual labs.

see you there

we're on our way to dc for the summit of awesome. we'll be setting up shop on saturday night at the show of awesome and giving a presentation sunday afternoon about booth set up and display. see you there!

ryantown

RRi was lucky enough to visit ryantown in london a week ago and it was just as good as i had imagined. the hardest part was picking something to bring home to stephen because i wanted everything. i finally decided that these were perfect! if you're near nyc before May, visit earnest sewn to see rob ryan's show ryantown usa.

just a few left

Totes
the letterpress totes were a hit! we've had several request for totes that have already been sold and since they are "one of a kind' we have to say no. sorry! there are just 8 5 totes left so hurry up and visit our shop here to get your own.

Fixturealso a hit at the party were our new recycled letter banners. we intended these to be a one time only item, but our friend maggie may have convinced us to take the "station" on  the road... you never know! we've already found them to be the perfect birthday card, so if your interested in getting your own set - visit our shop here and let us know!

thanks fred flare!

Cupcake

Partywe had a great time friday night! thanks to everyone who came to say hi and to the gang at fred flare for being perfect hosts (even when stephen tried to wreck the coat closet). it's clear that keith and chris have created a little fred flare family and we feel proud to have been a part of it for the last 40 days. we also have to say a special thank you to the amazing bilgin for taking such good care of our sign while it was in brooklyn.

see you there

6a00d83454990069e201156f5d518b970c-800wisadly, our second YOUR MESSAGE HERE project has come to a close. keith and chris of fred flare have decided to throw a party to celebrate our collaboration. there will be drinks, snacks and we're bringing some new items to celebrate the 40 chosen messages. we'll be there from 7 - 10 tonight and can't wait to meet you. click here for more info.

your message here

Zine

we wanted to document all 1500+ messages submitted to the fred flare YOUR MESSAGE HERE project. so we made a 52 page zine containing every single unedited message. we will be bringing these to the closing party on friday night, but we don't want you to feel left out if you can't make it... so we have added a YOUR MESSAGE HERE section to our shop! we only made an edition of 100, so once they're gone - they're gone.

recycled calendars

Paper scrapssince making our 2009 calendars we've had a pretty tall stack of misprints (thanks to my mild dyslexia). i knew we would find a use for them and have been looking forward to seeing what they would become. after purchasing a set of vintage alphabet dies, it seemed like the perfect partnership! we still have a bit more testing to do and a lot more die cutting, but if all goes well... these old calendars will become new banners.
